I tried so hard to get a head for this coming week but it just didn't happen. I will be traveling and teaching and just ran out of time to get this weeks stitches posted. So....how about we use this week as catch up week. I will be stitching on the plane and in my hotel at night if I'm not to exhausted. Be ready to jump back in when I return home.

365 Stitch a long - day 39 star stitch

A stormy morning here this morning. Thankful I have power. Could not get a clear picture this morning but hope you can see the stitch.

Todays stitch is a star stitch. You can start with a cross stitch and come back and add the extra cross. I find it is easier for spacing to stitch one star at a time. Thats just me. Be a star... shine....

365 Stitch a long - day 37- curved Blanket Stitch

Today is a short blanket stitch in a curved shape. It is interesting that just shortening the length of the stitch, changes the look completely. It is hard to believe that this is basically the same stitch as yesterday. I really like the look of this one.

365 Stitch a long - day 36 - closed Blanket Stitch

I'm a little sentimental this morning. Would give anything to be able to sit and stitch with my grandmother. She had a little storage room at the top of her stairs that held all kinds of needlework and quilts. An oversized linen closet. I am sure I get my love of creating from her.

Todays stitch is a closed blanket stitch. Mine are 5/8" in size. I start at the top right corner and stitch with thread under the needle coming down to the point each time. I then go back and put the closing stitch on the right side. A straight stitch with French knot ends is spaced between each little "fan".

365 stitch a long - day 35 stem stitch hearts

Stringing you along...lol... with stem stitch hearts. The only difference between outline and stem stitch, is where you keep the thread. For outline stitch, always keep the thread above the needle and for stem stitch, always keep the thread below the needle. The thread was keep beneath the needle for these string along hearts.

Enjoy your weekend and keep stitching,
Janice

365 Stitch a long - day 34 chain stitch flipped hearts

Love continues but now its upside down...lol... Well half the hearts are upside down. These are chain stitched. Found a marking pen that finally marks on the dark velvet. I will try to find a source for these pencils and carry them for you.

Can I come up with one more heart design to end the week? Check in tomorrow and see.....

365 Stitch a long - day 32 chain stitch hearts

Still feeling the love..... the sun is shining and it is warming up here.

Today is a chain stitch heart. Lightly draw hearts on your fabric. Chain stitch around the heart shape starting at the dip in the top of the heart. I am stitching these hearts on a different block of fabric so my hearts will be scattered in my quilt.

365 Stitch a long - day 31 fly stitch hearts

Happy Valentines Day !

Just had to stitch hearts today...lol... Start with a large fly stitch worked down one side of the seam line. Stitch 2 small fly stitches to form the top of the heart. You could also use straight stitches to make the hearts.

365 stitch a long - day 30 fly with lazy daisy

30 days of stitching. Is it a habit yet? ...lol... a good one for me. I am enjoying the pile of pretty blocks stacking up.

Todays stitch is a fly stitch with a lazy daisy tail. Instead of just making a plain tail, take your needle back in almost the same hole and make a lazy daisy. Top it off with a french knot.

Enjoy your weekend and catch up if you need too.

Janice

365 stitch a long - day 29 double chevron

A chilly morning here with beautiful snow on the ground and the sun is shining. It has been a while since we have seen it.

Todays stitch is a double chevron. I used a favorite color combination that is also on my cross stitch quilt. You would think I would be tired of it by now...lol... I am in the long process of hand quilting it. What was I thinking...lol...

365 Stitch a long - day 28 straight stitch flower

Well it took two tries this morning to get a good picture. Not sure if I had too much coffee or not enough...lol... Hope this one comes thru clear.

Todays stitch is a straight stitch flower. Mine seem come out neater using a fly stitch without the Y tail. I stitch 2 fly stitches starting at the outer edge and working my way to the middle. Finish with one straight stitch in the middle. Space your flowers with a french knot in between.

Keep stitching and stay warm,
Janice

365 Stitch a long - day 27 -feathered with top

Well I did go back and add both a lazy daisy and a french knot to yesterdays stitch and now it pops. That is my rule with embroidery. If you are not happy, keep adding. Just have to know when to stop...lol...

Today is a variation of a feather. It has 3 "legs" with a long gap in between. A straight stitch flower with 4 stitches, is stitched at the top.

365 Stitch a long - day 26 -chevron Stitch

Well I hope your super bowl team won yesterday. I watch for the commercials and half time.
Todays stitch is a chevron variation. One large - one small. Lazy daisy or french knots can also be added. I will probably go back and add one of these to the chevron stitches. After all we are supposed to go "crazy"....lol...

Janice

365 Stitch-A-Long - day 25 crossstitch/ lazy daisy

Can't believe it is Friday again. My days are flying by. You would think all this cold weather would have time slowing to a halt....only in traffic...lol.... Hope all of you are staying warm.

Todays stitch is a cross stitch worked without any spacing. I like to work half the cross stitch down the seam and work my way back to the top. A lazy daisy petal is added for interest.

Keep stitching,
Janice

365 Stitch-A-Long - day 24- looped couched stitch

Today is an interesting stitch in that it uses 2 sets of needles and thread. Actually, after you bring your top thread up, you can unthread your needle and use this needle for your couching. Make a loop on top and come up from underneath and tack it down. This is one time I would not separate the strands of floss for the top thread. They tend to want to separate and we want them together.

365 Stitch-A-Long - day 23- curved leafs

Today is combination of stitches. Start with a curved back stitch. I lightly traced a spool of thread with chalk. Add lots of lazy daisy "leaves" and a few french knots at the ends.

365 Stitch-A-Long - day 22 -double feather stitch

Today I copied a stitch off an antique piece. I am calling it double feather stitch. Work one row (three units) of feather stitches. Start back at the top and put a second row on top of the first leaving a slight space in between threads. I need to practice this one more and work on my spacing but am smitten by it.
